Powweb Review

Like BlueHost and SimpleHost, PowWeb has just one plan. Luckily, it’s a good one. You get the usual goodies (PHP, MySQL, Frontpage support, etc.), shopping cart and SSL support for commerce sites, a very active discussion community, and a $50 credit with Overture. Without a doubt, however, the centerpiece of their plan is their unlimited storage and transfer. Give PowWeb a serious look.

PowWeb is another one-plan host, the kind that you folks seem to like so much, and I can’t say I blame you. It is nice to see a single plan with everything thrown in rather than having to decide which level you actually need. But PowWeb has a lot going for it besides simplicity, most notably its relatively new “Zero Downtime” platform. This new network architecture uses multiple load-balanced servers to allow for automatic rollover in the case of a failure. All of which means that even if your server drops dead, your site doesn’t go down. As the saying goes, that alone is worth the price of admission.

So what else do you get besides great reliability? A nice website builder for the newcomers. Web templates for the design challenged like myself. Sundry tools for checking your work, such as an HTML checker, an image optimizer, and a meta-tag generator. And let’s not forget the unlimited bandwidth allowance.

PowWeb has been around for six years, so they are no fly-by-night operation. Instead, they are a solid host that has evolved from just part of the pack to a first rate contender. Their “zero downtime” architecture is top notch and should be the envy of many other hosts. Worthy of serious consideration.
