AN Hosting Review

AN Hosting was part of the midPhase family for a while, but both were acquired by UK2 in late 2007. Since then, they are equal siblings in the UK2 family, with AN Hosting occupying the single-plan niche. They give the same solid service and reliability that you’d get from [#%0#2]midPhase[/#%0#2], but with the simplicity of a one-plan-fits-all approach. In general, I like one-plan hosts as most multi-tiered plans seem to overly favor on level anyway. If you are considering [#%0#3]midPhase[/#%0#3], you should look at AN Hosting as well (and vice versa) as both are worthy hosts.

Shared Hosting

AN Hosting’s one plan (the “Mega” plan) is a shared Unix hosting plan. It comes with generous storage and transfer allowances, [#%0#4]midPhase[/#%0#4]’s trademark “free domain for life,” unlimited MySQL database, and the ability to host up to 20 domains in one package.

The Mega plan gives you the Fantastico script library, SiteStudio for quick site construction, Agora cart and osCommerce for ecommerce, Ruby on Rails, and plenty of other amenities. Add in SpamAssassin and unlimited emails and this plan becomes quite appealing for the multisite webmaster.

Plan Name   Storage   Transfer   Domains   Price   Features
 Mega   500GB   5,000GB   20   $6.95

Unix, CPanel with Fantastico, free domain for life, SpamAssassin, AWStats, unlimited MySQL databases, Agora cart, osCommerce, SiteStudio, PHP, Perl.

Support

Since AN Hosting and [#%0#5]midPhase[/#%0#5] are both part of the UK2 family of hosting services, you get the same high quality service you’d exapct from the better known [#%0#6]midPhase[/#%0#6]. To quote from our [#%0#7]midPhase[/#%0#7] review:

midPhase has a solid support record, with average ticket and telephone supports times below 15 minutes. I think this is their best selling point, regardless of how attractive their features are. If you’ve tried some other “bargain” hosts, you know that these times can be orders of magnitude larger, which is just painful when your site has a problem. They also have an online support forum where you can converse with other customers.

About HostScope

HostScope is a new site that combines several of my web sites, both existing and planned, into a single place. Its focus is web design, development, technology, and general webmastery. As a result, it needs to cover everything from picking a web host to configuring a blog to monetizing your site. Whether I can live up to the challenge of this broad a mission remains to be seen, but it should be an interesting ride regardless. More info...
